i think the best thing i ever did for myself was to try to emotionally remove myself from the different parts of a song when i was having difficulty getting the song done. if my ego was too wrapped up in the parts of the tune, i would intellectually be able to see the problem, but emotionally it was hard for me to commit the energy to make the nessesary cut. being able to objectively sit back and say : "while what i was trying to do duyring this breakdown was a cool idea, its dragging this track down" is now totally vital to me. so personally, i find being destructive is a good first step to jumping back into a song that i'm trying to finish off.
