Sup folks.....
I have a Dell Latitude laptop and it appears to have a grounded power supply, but whenever I try to record a mix, or whenever I play music from it, it hums. It is kind of a pulsating hum that appears to be related to my mixer in some way. I am using a Pioneer DJM600 mixer, which does not use a grounded plug. The effects lights on the mixer seem to flash in rhythm with the noise that is made onto my recordings, so that gives me a hint as to whats going on. The mixer is using alternating current and the laptop is using direct current.
This noise does not occur in my recordings that are made from applications that are run on the computeritself, like Reason or Acid. It only occurs when I try to record from an external source. The recordings also do not experience the noise problem when I run the laptop off of its battery power, but the batteries will not last long enough to make a good mix. Is there any power supply I can get that will solve this problem? Anyone have the same experience?
If you need an audio example of the noise, you can hear it whenever the volume goes down in my latest mix at:
