Lately I've been using Ozone for mastering, basically because it's an all in one, easy to use solution. I sometimes use Waves, or Wavelab, it really depends on the tune and what it sounds like when heavily compressed. Tried to incorporate Predatohm yesterday (because quite a few people have been banging on about it), but like T-Racks, the presets are crap and it takes a bit of time (more than 30 seconds) to get a sweet sound.

I use an external mixing desk, only because I still use external hardware (sampler, synths and outboard filter). VSTs are mixed internally and sent to the 2 outs of the card. Everything is then mixed together and routed from the desk to the card for recording. I guess it only works if you are using a). External hardware b). A card with multiple outs, which can be routed to the desk.
The advantage I get from using a Mackie 8bus mixer, is a warmer, distorted sound, which I can't achieve from plugins etc.

Subject: [dnb-prod] mastering and my mackie board

I've got 2 questions if anyone could help me:

1) what is some good software for mastering my final mixes

2) I've got a mackie 1202 VLZ board and a MIDIMAN audiophile card, how can I best utilize my board (right now i just do all my mixing on my computer, but i hear everyone talking about running their setup through an external mixing board, what's the advantage and how do i set ti up properly?)

thanks
andy
