Well,
Unless
you want to take stuff from sample CDs or old tunes then you'll probably
have to hunt down some old synths like the Korg M1, Emu Orbit 8080, Korg
Wavestation, Roland Alpha Juno 2, Yamaha DX7 FM synth or sift thru the www.vintagesynth.com (I think this
is the link) and see what they recommend as synths that people used in the early
90s. I would say that a Emu Orbit/Roland Juno 2 for 175-250 second hand
may be your best bet to get a load of early sounds in on
box...
Sampler wise, if you want that original flavour then pick up a Roland
W-30 sampler (prodigy used it) or an Akai S950 sampler - all cheap as chips
and horrible to use but thats what people used to use
apparently.
I had
the same desires to recreate that sound of 93-95 Bukem tunes and had the same
kind of question as you, but then discovered that learning to use old sound
modules is not so much fun compared to the ease of use of a good sampler and a
PC to make tunes. Its up to you tho....but remember that you can always sample
stuff in newer easy to use machines (Emu/Yamaha/soft samplers) then downgrade
the sampling quality to 8bit or add distortion to strings and pads etc to rough
things up a bit...
Your
call
Cheers
Dan

Subject: [dnb-prod] Ye old Rave and Hardcore...
I was listening to some old rave songs and wondered how they create those crazy synth sounds and basses. I havent been able to reproduce them. Any tips would be appreciated!
