Ahhhhh, you have hit on the problem Im running into right now, finishing a track! I wonder what the professionals do when they lack that drive? Sometimes I think maybe getting stoned or drunk is the answer, but that does the opposite and I dont have focus. My best tracks are the result of listening to a classic track that has the feel I want to express. This really gets me going but its rare that inspiration meets with the drive to create.
Me thinks the slicer works by cutting each drum hit based on rate of attack and decay of the waveforms (at least thats the way soundforge does it). So it detects and singles out the percussives and then gets their midi timings, after that it assigns them to a key on a midi keyboard on the playlist with the timings. When one changes the tempo the program plays it like anyother pattern. Its pretty clever, but I think it doesnt come close to actually cutting the break by hand and timing yourself as samples. For me the slicer seems to kill the feel of the break...
I dont like Reason, it kills the sound depth. I heard some tracks made on it and read somewhere (I forget where exactly) that it only uses part of the waveform to render the tracks. It might be good for someone used to a hardware setup though. Yet Fruity accepts VST's and DXi's, so 'nuff said, we have our winner!
btw: Im pissing my pants Im so excited about FL Studio producer addiction, I mean addition...
