in fact, i'd argue that the art of writing drum'n'bass these days is 95% about trying to put a personal spin on a *well* defined set of norms. its kind of like the blues, people have been playing the same damned 12 bar progression for 100+ years now, but individual artists can come into that restrictive format and do something truely inspired.

besides, fucking around with the amen is just too much fun to waste your energy worrying about how its so played out :)
