Running dnews 5.7e1 on FreeBSD4 w/2GB.
Receive Daily expire report, start 82% end 82% as of today:
Disk space 1833MB - history*2=16MB,xover=1343MB,dbi.idx*2=3MB = 470MB for
piles
Total space consumed by /var/spool/dnews/* (all subdirectories) is about
225MB.
When start/end exceed 105%, I get a "paused" message.
I believe we are set so that no messages expire, which is by intent.

Then increase your 'diskspace' setting so that it never reaches 100% usage.

Questions:
What is that xover value composed of? The actual space consumed in
/var/spool/dnews/xover is about 35MB.
The reported start% end% are % of what?

It should be the total of that directory, is it correct after you restart dnews, possibly the figure is drifting.
