I have spools on 2 different hard drives. I would like to replace the secondary drive (which only contains buckets, no indexes or work directory) with a larger hard drive.
I have enough spool space on the primary drive to copy the buckets from the secondary drives spool to the primary drives spool. Is there any way to do this and get Dnews 5.5h2 to still recognize the buckets or will I have to wait a month for everything to expire off the secondary drive before replacing the hard drive?
Yes, just move the files, and restart dnews, it will find them. If unix make sure you set the ownership's to 'news'
BTW, is Dnews still under active development/maintenance ?
It's still supported/maintained, but most new development is going into surgenews which we hope will replace it in the next few months, we've spent over a year re-writing it from the ground up and adding cool features to make SurgeNews a really superior/robust/fast product.
Of course we don't recommend people migrate from dnews to suregnews currently unless they are facing a problem or need a new feature, or are setting up 'new' hardware.
