I have a machine that had a dbi.idx that went over the alloted 2 Gigs in space. I since reduced the spool of the machine and ran a expire. During the expire process, the machine started the resort of the index files and died. To try and work around this problem (since now I had a outdated dbi.idx file), I started a rebuild index. This fails due to memory allocation errors. Any insight how to work around this and get my dbi.idx back operational again.
That error suggests it's run out of virtual memory, check the size of your swap file and increase it, and add more physical memory if you can.
Also send me dnews.conf and tellnews showmem output and I'll check if I can see any settings that might reduce memory usage to help.
