Devuan basically works on a blacklist system, where some packages don't come
from Debian anymore but from our builds.

The problem with this (coupled with Debian's often overly strict dependencies)
is that some packages end up not installable because our version hasn't kept up
(like what happens in Debian Sid "transitions", although those are documented
on a certain webpage)!

It's also a tradeoff of using the official Debian security repos (which are
still nice most of the time, but worth to know)

You're not doing anything wrong, even though you can often have these problems
sorted quicker if you also add this repo:
deb http://angband.pl/debian nosystemd-stretch main

Good luck!
