The line is there in /etc/slim.conf
And the file exists in several places:

/usr/share/slim/themes/desktop-slim-theme
/var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/desktop-slim-theme

Did it with no effect - I did a reboot. Probably just restarting
slim would have sufficed.
Still grey. BTW the file isn't found by apt-file:
