When I do as you suggest, I get the message: not giving the name mike. To the dhcp lease of x.x.x.x because the name exists in /etc/hosts with address 10.10.10.1
As far as locking everything down by mac, the network is isolated and 'trusted'. I get a machine, I need to set it up and I get to keep it for a little while then I deliver it and don't see it again. I just want a convenient name to refer to it while its here and a predictable ip based on the hostname I assign when I install.
