This document is the result of a set of ideas concocted during the IETF118 hackathon, and briefly presented on during the hackathon update at the IETF118 DNSOP WG session. DELEG is a method to advertise DNS nameserver capabilities and zone features to resolvers. The technical specification, format, and basic operational considerations for DELEG are described here and it is expected to be discussed in the interim DNSOP WG. INTERIM: This document will be discussed during next week’s DNSOP Interim, announced here: https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/dnsop/ORErBtdXcqxmYzULmM-e3XZFArk/ The interim session will focus on the necessary changes to the DNS protocol to ensure proper resolution of the DELEG RR. BoF@IETF119: DELEG is expressly designed to be easily extensible for any other information that might be useful in a DNS delegation, such as transports and capabilities of the child name servers. We’ve requested time for a non-working-group-forming BoF session during IETF119. The intent of the BoF is to discuss these transports and capabilities of DELEG, that is, the new facilities it provides, such as delegating DNSSEC management to operators (i.e. DELEG alias to SVCB containing a DS record), specifying encrypted transports, and so on.
