There are non-commercial .coms and non-organizational .orgs; is the
spectre of non-local .lans sufficiently confusing to merit a 2.6x
longer TLD, even for non-English speakers?

"dot lan" might imply Local Area Network to you, but it *could* imply
inter-nal, if we chose to define it that way.
