Dear Benjamin,

Thanks for your question during the IETF 126 DNSOP WG session1.

Your question is: "what this if for, who queries it, and why it's useful".

Basically, it's for the ingress PE router in a multi-domain IPv6-only network.
When that router gets an IPv4 packet destined to some remote address, it needs
to know which IPv6 prefix to encapsulate it with. AMR lets it request DNS for
that mapping, just reverse the IPv4 address, append .in-addr-m.arpa, and get
back the right IPv6 prefix.

Why is that useful? Because it works across domains without requiring BGP
sessions between every pair of PEs. It supports longest-prefix lookups.

I'll make all this clearer in the next revision. Please feel free to raise
further questions or comments for additional discussion.

Best regards,
Guozhen
