The reason we do not index songs is that many people have very large libraries and indexing every song would slow down Do significantly. Rather than indexing, would a search library action be acceptable? It could return a list of songs, artists, albums, etc that matched your query. Also - the banshee plugin is being worked on for the new banshee. Stay tuned for that one.
