While I'm with the team in saying 'Multiple Selections' should be well thought
out, here's a small suggestion.
Right now when I multiple-select with comma, it's indicated by a '+' sign,
which is good but it goes out of view when you drill down for more items.
I think a tiny pane that slides out listing the items selected so far
(and adding more as you select items) would look and feel great, and
increase the usability of multiple selections.
