Finally closing this bug. I've allowed the user to change the number of
items indexed by F&F plugin. As for the other 2 items on the list,
these should go in separate bug reports / feature requests. See my
notes in the bug description.

There is a limit of 3000 items allowed to be indexed in the File and Folders
plugin. I believe with slightly improved options when adding sources could
allow for someone to target more what they want indexed and stay below this
line. For example: Currently offered is how deep you want to recurse. It may
also be a good idea to allow for such things as:
+ * Option to allow the user to select how many items to index max and prompt a
warning for people pushing this number excessively high.

* Limiting the search to file wildcards (ex: *.py, *.java, ...).
* Limiting the search to only files or only directories.
