Call for Articles - OIS Newsletter
On-line Civic Particiaption in Government

Since June 1997, GSA's Office of Intergovernmental Solutions (OIS) has
published a comprehensive intergovernmental solutions newsletter that
identifies trends and successes in utilizing information technology around
the world and provides highlights from federal, state, local and
international governments, as well as industry and academia.

For our next edition, we will cover the topic of Online Civic Participation
in Government (E-Democracy). Our previous newsletter, Online Access to
Government Information, discussed how governments are using the Internet to
provide information and services to citizens, businesses, and government
employees. This companion newsletter will address how citizens and
government representatives are using the Internet to facilitate
participation in the political process.

We are soliciting articles in the following areas related to online
participation in government:

· On-line voting
· On-line influence of the decision-making process
· On-line access to elected officials
· On-line advocacy of issues
· Online constituencies (Use of the Internet for grass-roots
organization and online mobilization of citizens)
· On-line campaigning (Candidate and party presence on line)

If you have any stories to tell about on-line civic participation or
e-democracy and would like to submit an article to the newsletter, please
contact James Mackison at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or 202 501-1135 as soon as
possible. Articles should be short and concise (approximately 1,000 words)
and be submitted electronically by September 22nd, 2000. Please include
the author's name, title, organization, telephone number and e-mail
address.
