In mid-March Ann Macintosh with the International Teledemocracy
Center <http://www.teledemocracy.org> will be in Ottawa for meetings
related to the Commonwealth Centre for Electronic Governance. I have
encouraged her to try and add Washington, DC to her visit.

If your organization would like to host a presentation by one of the
world's emerging leaders on democracy and the Internet, drop us a
note <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED],[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
Organizations that can help cover the costs of the Ottawa-DC leg of
her trip get first priority. What impresses me most about the work
of the International Teledemocracy Center is their direct connections
among practice, technical design, and academic research.

Check out their new e-consultation on Education for Citizenship:

The "Electronic Democracy and Young People" article is quite good.
Ann gave an excellent corresponding presentation in Stockholm.

Below is Ann's biography and direct contact information.

P.S. If other "e-democracy" researchers/leaders have plans to visit
North America, or anywhere for that matter, consider using DO-WIRE as
a tool to help get the word out - as long as you plan to share what
you learn with the group.

Ann's Biography and Contact Information

Ann Macintosh, Director of the International Teledemocracy Centre at

Government’s Ministerial Task Force on “Digital Scotland”, and also a
member of the UK-Online working group helping to specify e-democracy
services for the UK government portal. She has been responsible for
the development of a number of on-line democracy initiatives on
behalf of the Scottish government, government-related organisations
and voluntary organisations. She joined the University in August 1999
to establish the Centre. Prior to this she was with the Artificial
Intelligence Applications Institute at the University of Edinburgh as

knowledge management research. The principal concern of her research
now involves the development of innovative e-democracy systems and
the successful take-up of these systems by citizens and government.
