No need for creating a new project. We are indeed already translating Gcompris here. Its under the GNOME tree. We added this file to the GNOME tree almost a year ago: http://cvs.arabeyes.org/viewcvs/translate/gnome/fifth-toe/gcompris.po I suggest you join the GNOME translation project so you can work on this file (and others if you wish).
