I fired this off to devinfo yesterday and realized that I hadn't
mentioned it here...

If anyone has any comments, please let me know.

Regards,
Dan

Subject: [e-smith-devinfo] FYI - new HOWTO on remote access via SSL to the server
manager

devinfo folks,

With all previous (e-smith) versions, you could only access the web GUI server
manager from the local internal network. To remotely access the the GUI, you
had to either: a) ssh in and use the text-based browser; b) set up an ssh
tunnel for port 980; or c) set up a PPTP connection to connect to the local
network.

With the SME Server V5 we added the capability to access the server via SSL
from specifically designated IP addresses (either single addresses or a
subnetted range). I have put together a HOWTO on the subject at:

  http://www.e-smith.org/docs/howto/remote-mgr-access-howto.html

Comments and suggestions about the document are welcome.

Regards,
Dan
