Hi Paul and welcome to Apache OpenOffice and the documentation group.
The first thing you should do is subscribe to this mailing list by
sending a blank email to mailto:[email protected] and
follow the instructions in the reply.
If you have not already done so I suggest that you go through the new
users orientation modules located at
http://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/index.html. These will give you
a good grounding in how the project as a whole works and then the
http://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/intro-doc.html which will
introduce the documentation project.
Again welcome and I look forward to seeing your active participation
here. If you have any questions at all just drop a line here and ask away.
