DSSSL + openjade + pdfjadetex is arguably the most stable XSL + passivetex might be better than fop. http://sf.net/projects/openjade http://sf.net/projects/jadetex http://www.hcu.ox.ac.uk/TEI/Software/passivetex/ Both these solutions also require a reasonably comprehensive LaTeX installation. DSSSL + openjade + openoffice/msword/whatever to postscript/pdf via RTF might be a solution if you don't want LaTeX....
