In version 1.2 of fo/footnote.xsl footnotes was embedded in square brackets. The brackets have since been removed, allthough references to footnotes are still embedded in square brackets. Instead norm relays on the fo attribute of super, which I don't think look that good when using FOP (maybee better with XEP ?). Would that be something you would consider including again ? or maybe parameterize ?
