Have you tried the test case on PHP 5.2.5? It shouldn't be hard to have a
few versions on one machine. I have also 5.2.6 but I'll need to install
some extensions to convert to it.
I tried your 1530.diff and was optimistic at first since commenting out
lines 562 & 563 made the notices disappear. However, when I finished with
the diff I got the notices again.
