You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Using Ubuntu under Windows XP, when the < and > (less than and greater
than) characteres are bold, they look aligned to the top instead of in
the middle like a regular character.

This is more evident at smaller sizes. I'm attaching a screenshot where
at 12px the bug is obvious and at 28px where characters are equally
aligned.

This can be triggered also using 10px or 11px.
