I think providing hand made CMakeFiles for specific demos should be
allowed.
Maybe you can introduce a list with excludes in generate-cmakefiles.
Something like
excludes = ["qtplot"]
and then something like:
...
if os.path.basename(root) in excludes:
continue
...
