here's the implementation of document.selectNodes():
public List selectNodes(String xpathExpression) {
XPath xpath = createXPath(xpathExpression);
return xpath.selectNodes(this);
}
Looks a lot like your alternative!
My suggestion: use document.selectNodes() unless you intend
to use the same XPath expression multiple times.
