Sorry for replying to myself. Something much easier to implement and at least providing some additional security would be what the .ch-registry does with the profiles that get managed through their customer interface. Whenever you change anything, you get a mail to the owners address (the one before the change naturally) with all the details on the change. Another nice thing about this is, if we're the technical contact, we can change the nameservers ourselves. The customer just gets a confirmation mail.
