>>Can someone in the know verify if this is true, that registerfly will >>continue to have it's accreditation for another 30 days, til May 1, 2007? >>
Hi Josh, Yes read that on the ICANN blog from one of their representatives. RegisterFly are appealing the decision to revoke their accreditation now. That will take a further month. ICANN have asked that they take down their logo on the front page but if you check the Registerfly about page, it still says they are accredited. There is nothing ICANN can do about this as technical they *are* until such a point that this is stripped away from them. As you say, this will be on May 1st. It's extremely unlikely they are going to get anything from the appeal process but it buys them some more time. http://blog.icann.org/?p=83 I'm still unclear though how loosing their accreditation is going to help with sorting out this mess. I agree they need to loose it but in real terms surely that just means they will shut down the company. There will be little reason for them to continue helping people with transfer codes or correcting those domains which are left with generic WHOIS data from their in-house WHOIS protection system. When the accreditation is lost on May 1st ICANN can approve a bulk transfer of the domains to another Registrar but without the correct WHOIS data who is going to decide ownership? Are easily-faked screenshots from the RegisterFly interface or emails enough? That's going to be a tough one to sort out. As George pointed out before on here - ICANN are considering implementing a third party system which holds all the registration data and transfer codes because of this incident. I agree that this might be a security concern and extra point of liability for ICANN but it does seem a possible solution to avert this mess in the future.
