Why are parked pages a "sleazy scum tactic"?

We have a large number of domains through Tucows and some of them do end up
on parked pages when they expire.
We have NEVER had a complaint from a customer about their expired domain
showing the parked page, and our customers are usually not slow at voicing
their opinions.
In fact the parked pages have a positive benefite because they it remind
them who the domaain is registered through and our custom header has contact
details so they can contact us and renew it.

Have you thought about using the custom header for positive purposes like
this?

On another note we now send renewal notices in the post becaus eof all the
spam filtering and innacurate email addresses.
This has improved our renewal rates by a few percent.
We kept it simple by generating post cards via a laser printer from a
database report.
Its only a few minutes work and we only send to domains that expire in the
next few days but have not been paid.
