Hi everyone. Hope you California folks are doing ok. I wanted to tell you about an incredible band. They're called BonePony. It's a 3-man band- all acoustic and percussion. They are incredible musicians whose music defies any categorization. If you mix rock'n roll with bluegrass, country, soul and R&B, throw in the vocal intensity of hard core gospel and the precision (not the sound) of jazz, you get BonePony. The guitar player plays 5 or 6 different acoustic guitars. Another plays the mandolin, the mandola, the banjo and the violin and has a kind of tamborine-sounding thing strapped to his ankle (you can tell now that I am not a musician). The lead singer plays congas and conga-like drums, a small drum, marimbas - or something like marimbas, the harmonica, a stomp board - and he uses his voice like an instrument. They really are impressive and have a totally unique sound. It's the best wooden music I've ever heard. I first saw them when they opened for Crosby, Stills and Nash about 4 or 5 years ago and they totally blew away 20,000 people. Then I saw them again when they opened for Little Feat and again the audience just could not get enough of them. I saw them last night at a very small gig they played and had the pleasure of meeting them - we had dinner together. These guys are Doobie-like in that they are master musicians and are really down-to-earth and easy to talk to. So why the heck am I writing this? Well, I guess it's because I support the arts and these guys are incredible artists and I just know that you guys would really dig'em. They have 2 CD's out - "Stomp Revival" and "Travelers Companion." If you hear that they're coming your town, I recommend you check'em out. You'll be amazed at the amount of sound three guys can make and how good it sounds. Allan
