Debbie ,
As a guitar player for the last 26 years , I have had many
influences . Tom Johnson is still a major influence . He isn't as
"flashy" as Eric Johnson ( another Major influence), but still is a
guitar player with a distinct sound . I can still recognize any Tom
Johnson song on the radio ,by the sound of the minor 7th chord in the
intro . I was also influenced at an earlier age ,by a song that always
closed out the regular programming day at 12:00 every night , on a local
radio show when I was in high school . I would lie in bed and wait till
the DJ would tell all the listeners that the station was closing down
for the night and then say goodnight . After that, a song would fade out
the show . I never knew the name of that song until I Got into the Doobie
Brothers . I Purchased " Vices " and listened to the whole Album . When I
Got to the last song , "Flying Cloud ", I knew I would be a fan of the
Brothers for Life . Since then I have had too many influences to number ,
As Diverse from Hendrix To Dan Fogelberg , from The Eagles to Night
Ranger . I am probably showing My early 40"s age , but I really dont care
.
Two weeks from tonight , the Band I play in, will open for a regional act
" 9 Iron " . The set list is already made up . If we get an encore ,
it will be " Long Train Runnin " . I still haven"t forgotten my roots !!
By the way , I I own a 12 string guitar now , I play " Flying Cloud " all
the time !!! Influence goes a long way .
Doobro
