There are actually 2 videos of this concert out there. The copy that is
easier to find is the Doobies appearance on PBS' Soundstage. It was
recorded mid-July 1979 at the Alpine Valley Music Center in Wisconsin. Live
music is interspersed with member interviews. Unfortunately, songs like
"Long Train" and "It Keeps You Runnin'" are cut or deleted.
The second version of this same concert is a bit harder to find and was
originally aired on Showtime. The show starts with "Takin' It to the
Streets" playing in the background and parachutists dropping to the ground.
One parachutist is asked, "What are you doin'? "We're here to see the
Doobie Brothers...!" No interviews during the show, just straight on
concert footage.
Note: Michael McDonald wears a "Bruce Hornsby Band" t-shirt. This concert
was taped not long after Michael & Jeff (I believe it was Jeff, but don't
hold me to that) discovered Bruce at a nightclub in Hampton, VA. OK, it
wasn't so much that they discovered Hornsby. Bruce had Bsed is way
backstage at a Doobies concert in Hampton in late '78 and essentially told
Michael, "I have a great band, come see us". Well, he did and soon after
Bruce Hornsby was with BR Cohn.
Anyway, good luck with the tapes.
