The Doobie Brothers, imix.com and Pyramid Records Launch Groundbreaking 'Click To Brick' Marketing Collaboration

Radio Giant AMFM, Key Retailers, Set to Join Forces to Launch First Doobie Brothers Release in a Decade; Exclusive Campaign Set to Begin on Microsoft's Windowsmedia.com

NEW YORK, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The Doobie Brothers and imix.com, today announced that 15 newly recorded live greatest hits from The Doobie Brothers, including the classic songs ``Black Water,'' ``Listen To The Music'' and ``Long Train Runnin,''' will serve to launch one of the most innovative and groundbreaking ``click to brick'' promotions ever seen on the Internet. In a comprehensive campaign that combines the powerful forces of imix.com, AMFM Interactive (the online arm of radio powerhouse AMFM), key retailers including CDNow, Checkout/Wherehouse, Sam Goody/Musicland, Tower Records, TWEC.com among others, Microsoft's WindowsMedia.com, and The Doobie Brothers, the ``click to brick'' promotion will mark the first time that the music industry has seen a seamless, comprehensive effort that integrates online, radio, and traditional offline mechanisms to set up a traditional record release. Representatives at imix.com are estimating that this collaboration will result in more than 100 million people having seen and/or heard about the new Doobie Brothers offering by the time the CD hits stores through Pyramid Records, distributed by WEA, in early October.

The Doobie Brothers, who will use the innovative promotion to mark the October 3rd retail release of their first studio recording in 10 years, Sibling Rivalry, will premier all 15 tracks (recently recorded over two nights in Las Vegas) on August 31st, at Microsoft's WindowsMedia.com (http://windowsmedia.com/) in the Windows Media Format, the highest quality and most secure format for digital music. WindowsMedia.com, part of the MSN network of Internet services, is the fastest-growing major audio and video guide on the Internet.

The tracks will then ``timeout'' at midnight, September 11 and direct consumer to all key participating retailers. With this transition, each participating retailer and imix.com will then make the 15 live tracks, along with 4 new tracks from Sibling Rivalry, available for custom CD compilations and individual downloads. In addition, all participating retailers will have unique downloading exclusives and a range of highly compelling consumer offers. The AMFM network of radio stations will participate with on-air/online offers of these same services, as well as exclusive giveaways, which will be fulfilled by imix.com.

Patrick Simmons, Tom Johnston and Keith Knudsen, three of the original members of the Doobie Brothers said: ``Anyone who pays attention to the world around them has to acknowledge the power of the Internet and its impact on the way that fans will get their music in the 21st century. We are also so pleased to have some of the best companies in the space helping us to not only promote our upcoming release, but to know that these companies will do anything and everything to protect against the piracy of tracks made available online.''

``It is not only an honor to work with all of the companies involved in this promotion,'' said David Gould, CEO of imix.com, ``but to work with one of the greatest American rock and roll acts of our time in the Doobie Brothers. When all is said and done, imix.com and all of our partners, who are truly the best of the best, will have united to create a new business model and collaborative environment for the music industry that will be duplicated for a long time to come.''

``Once again the Doobie Brothers are proving they are pioneering artists with the digital debut of their greatest hits on the web,'' said Dave Fester, general manager, Digital Media Division, Microsoft Corp. ``This innovative promotion is a great example of how top artists can reach out to their millions of fans in new ways using Windows Media's industry-leading technology.''

The Doobie Brothers have won countless awards, sold more than 50 million records, including 11 multi-platinum albums and 13 Gold albums, and have provided an indelible imprint in the hearts and minds of fans for 30 years. Sixteen Top 40 hits, including two #1 singles, span a career that is defined by what is most important to them - their music. The band's first retail release in ten years, Sibling Rivalry is 13 tracks of vintage Doobie Brothers with a twist. The album includes many songwriters, as well as four different lead singers and marks the first time in the band's history that the 'brothers' have elected to produce their own recording. The first single off the release ``People Gotta Love Again,'' captures the pure optimism that is synonymous with the band.
