But by all means DO express to the list and the band, your dismay
that such a thing has happened, and also your thanks for the way they have
(and if we are lucky, will continue to) be accesible to their fans.
Oh wow..sigghhh. Ok I'll express my dismay, Miles. The Doobie Brothers are
a treasure. I feel like I've been over-privileged. They have been very
sweet to me. Far more than I'd ever hoped for or expected. I'd hate to see
the meetings go away too and have things return to the "1975 days" again
just because someone abused them. Abuse makes me angry. Even though I like
the Doobies a whole lot, I wouldn't want to do anything to wear them out or
hurt them. They have been on the road constantly this year and I am sure
they are tired and miss their kids and their families and their own beds. I
don't think I could handle what they do night after night, show after show:
picture flashes and crowds and hugging and signing autographs and answering
the same questions and talking to strange people over and over. My gosh, I
couldn't handle that!!! But they do it...up to a point I am sure.
Etiquette is just common sense consideration for another's feelings and
comfort. I think the majority of us here are well-mannered, considerate
people. (crazy maybe, but considerate) I just wish everyone was.

I wish I could honestly say that I can't believe this has happened
again (Yeah, Again: it happened last year too, and was the straw that broke
the camel's back, and got the aftershow passes for the FC after virtually
any show cancelled).
But unfortunately, I do believe it. We have no way to keep the bad
apples from signing up with the listserve, learning people's names, and then
making a horse's behind of themselves (and the rest of us in the process).
99.99% of us already know how to behave, and are usually walking on
eggshells around the guys to be sure we DON'T do anything obnoxious.
But when something like what happened, happens, Laurin HAS to do
something to try to demonstrate to the band that we are at least trying to
police ourselves. Very tough in this case because the perp was pretty much
of a lurker. There was nothing I can think of we could have done to prevent
this in this case. But if the band should decide that too many flakes are
getting into the works, we'll all lose, unfortunately.
So for the 99.99% of us who do observe proper decorum, don't take it
wrong.
Make no mistake though, this was REALLY BAD. When Laurin gets phone
calls and Emails from the band asking what the H-E-Double-Drumsticks is
going on, it's BAD.
