My son bought a repalcement Thinkpad battery, and it looks like it is a
genuine replacement - I can't see any major differences from the
original, just one label in a different place. I don't know where he got
it, likely a shop in Guildford. 

But, the new one like the old one, says it has only 33-34% capacity.
This is not a battery thing I think, but BIOS or thinkpad low level
firmware keeping a setting despite all efforts to reset and remeasure.
It was originally XP, but is now Ubuntu.
