Hi all,

I am sure this has been asked before, and I am only asking out of idle
curiosity..
What is your preferred distribution of Linux? It seems most of the list
is based on Ubuntu or some derivative (or even Debian)

I use Debian, running on a mix of servers and clients at work and home. For me the two year interval between major releases and the very conservative Debian approach is an advantage - now so much of the OS and associated applications are generally mature and well sorted, I'm happy to run rather "stale" versions. A few years back a lot more people on the list were running Debian - as you say I think many switched to Ubuntu - I'm guessing the major reason was this issue of Debian packages typically being several releases behind the latest.

Cheers

Tim
