Have you tried mozbackup -
Tim you may want to look at the thunder plunger plugin.  This
can be set to look for and delete obsolete accounts ( it also reports
the size of large mailboxes).

Thanks Guys, but JohnCC answer was what was needed. I had already checked the contents and of the account and there was nothing worth keeping (mainly used as a forum and mailing list e-mail address)
