I have collected the responses in a file and will work through then. Thanks for the links which I will follow up I have not touched that particular disk yet which I believe was ntfs file system in one large partition. Certainly I will make space on an external drive and do the recovery to that. I think I have used 'Photo Rec' before and was amazed to find that when I read the mpg files into the default music collection app it actually had recovered the tags and hence I could save the files back to their proper titles. This is the sort of project that will keep me busy in the dark winter days ahead.
