Bear with me as this is a bit long and involved
I am running SolydXK EE which is basically Debian testing.
By default with my current mouse (Microsoft mobile wireless mouse) the
scrolling speed of the mouse is to fast. Here is the output from an
xinput command to see what the setting of the current mouse is
mit@lunar1 ~ $ xinput --list-props 10 | grep Scroll
Evdev Scrolling Distance (269): 1, 1, 1
Where 10 is the mouse ID (see below) and 1, 1, 1 is the scroll speed
setting.
To change the scroll speed I simply run xinput to find the ID of the
mouse (see below)
mit@lunar1 ~ $ xinput
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave
pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v1.0 id=10 [slave
pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v1.0 id=11 [slave
pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave
keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=6 [slave
keyboard (3)]
↳ Video Bus id=7 [slave
keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=8 [slave
keyboard (3)]
↳ Eee PC WMI hotkeys id=12 [slave
keyboard (3)]
↳ Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v1.0 id=9 [slave
keyboard (3)]
↳ HID 046a:0011 id=13 [slave
keyboard (3)]
↳ No brand 4 Port KVMSwicther id=14 [slave
keyboard (3)]
There are three listing for the mouse and it normally one of the two
ID's under Virtaul core Pointer
I simply set my preferred scroll speed with
mit@lunar1 ~ $ xinput --set-prop 10 "Evdev Scrolling Distance" 5, 5, 5
Still with me, good...............................
Now if I simply had my SolydXK EE PC then it would be easy as I could
enter a command to set the scroll speed into one of several places in
Debian to set the scroll speed, but it is not. I use a 4 port KVM
switch, this is a mechcanical version, I simply select one of the 4
button on the KVM box for the PC I want to access, this is mainly for
switching between my Window PC and the SolydXK EE PC. Everytime I switch
between the two PC's and come back to my SolydXK EE PC I have to reset
my mouse scroll speed, which is complicated further as the mouse ID
changes everytime as well.
So to my question, does anybody know where the mouse scroll speed is
set?? If I can find where the scroll speed is set at 1, 1, 1 then I can
simply chnage it permanently rather than having to run xinput all the
time. I am guessing that the scroll speed will be likely be set at the
build stage of some package and will probably involve compling a package
with my setting in it but I have no idea which one.
Appreciate any though anybody has on this.
Regards
Tim
