It's an Acer Aspire Switch 10 with M%8.1 but the old couple cann't get
on with it. I have an external DVD drive which is 'seen' at boot time
but will not boot from. Tried looking at the 'bios' and managed to
get the DVD as first drive but no luck.

is getting in the way and you need to either disable it in the BIOS,
returning to Legacy booting, or add the KEK of the media you're trying
to boot to the BIOS's list? I've not done anything with UEFI so it's a
complete guess on my part based on Google "Acer Aspire Switch 10 boot
