Hmm, I don't quite parse that.  Assuming that you meant that I'm a recent 
Kubuntu user, then that is not 
true,  I've been using it since approximately 2001!.

I originally had the Open Source driver and subsequently installed the 
proprietary driver.  There was no 
discernible difference.

Symptoms are as follows:

1.  In Foobillard the cueing is rendered in steps as is the progress of the 
ball.

2.  In GL-117, the start menu is almost unnavigable due to stuttering, (I'm not 
sure why).  Once I've 
fought my way through the menus, the game plays reasonably well, although the 
detail isn't particularly 
good.

When I run the 'Unigine_Heaven' 
(https://unigine.com/products/benchmarks/heaven/) [1]tool the detail is 
brilliant but the frame rate is very poor (~3fps).
