Hi,

This morning I was testing an alternative configuration for the WMT Webserver.

In the diagram at:

https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?
f=36&t=215608&p=1343760#p1326278

the path to the Internet is made using Powerline Adaptors between the Pi and
the Office Router. This won't work at the moment, because the two buildings
are on different phases, so I've been exploring the use of a passive external
WiFi Antenna (A USB type) to connect the Pi to the Office Router.

As recorded elsewhere the routing and filtering of the packets is set up using
nodogsplash to manage the Ethernet port to the Outdoor WiFi AP. This port is
set to a fixed IP address and the path to the Office, (whether Ethernet or
WiFi) uses DHCP.

For the purposes of testing, I did not connect the cable to the Outdoor WiFi
AP; I was simply seeing if I could get a strong enough signal for nodogsplash
to work. Initially, I connected the new WiFi Antenna to my laptop and got a
weak but usable signal.

About an hour after those tests, I plugged the new passive WiFi Antenna into
the Pi and found that Although the signal worked, it was extremely weak and
kept dropping out. I therefore stopped testing pending repositioning of the
Antenna.

A short time later one the WMT staff asked if I'd done anything to make the
Kitchen PoS terminal lose its WiFi connection. The main ticket office and
management office WiFi, which comes from the same Router) continued to work.

Is there any scenario in which this could have been caused by me? What
testing could I do to ensure that this doesn't occur again?

I can't see how the configuration that I've used could have caused this
because:

1. The Pi is connecting to the Office Router in exactly the same way as the
laptop did.

2. The Outdoor AP is on a different subnet to the Office Router.

3. I had this working for a short time one quiet afternoon with the Pi in the
same room as the Office Router and the Outdoor AP simulated by an old ISPs
Router (same config as the real one). There were no issues reported, although
the kitchen staff may have had no occasion to use the PoS equipment at the
time.

Any ideas?
