My Nephew in Canada has set up a NextCloud private server in a cupboard in his
father's house. This is intended for us three brothers to access and
consolidate all the family photos. All we have is file access, but it is
capable of more, including CalDav. I shall have to ask whether he has a free or
paid version. We three brothers always find it difficult to arrange time for a
video meeting, especially with an 8 hour time difference. Perhaps CalDav could
help.

Probably the desire to de-google and self host. Self hosting is fine, but doing
it behind your own router/dsl connection is a pain.
Much better to spin up a container runner on the cloud.

Is there a reason for going through all this, aside from it being a
learning experience? I use google Keep on my android phone for my toDo lists.
Occasionally I have completed a list, but list #5 keeps growing.
