For lots of reasons, I recently did a clean installation of Kubuntu 26.04 and Calibre is now working again. :-)
The new installation also fixed the black-screen-with-dot problem that I had when clicking email subjects in Thunderbird and one or two other more minor issues.
The main reason that I did this was that VirtualBox completely had it's knickers in a twist when I was trying to open previous created VMs. All that is now fixed, but I seem to have lost some of my email identities (but not all, which I would have expected).
