I would tend to agree. If you look at the page source, you will still
see the asp.net tags (<asp:TextBox> etc) in it. It is the job of the
ASP.NET process to compile this into HTML output and pass it to the
webserver.

To put it simply, the problem is not with the mode of publishing, but
with the .NET installation on the server. Make sure that if this is an
IIS server, you have registered ASP.NET within IIS.
