Assuming you have full control over the file paths, this is relatively
easy. The general process is as follows.

Given a small randomly generated, say, 10 byte control file. 'X'

Step 1: Assert that the file at path 2 is not equal to X; if it is,
generate another file
Step 2: Backup the file at path 1
Step 3: Overwrite the file at path 1 with your control file
Step 4: Assert that the file at path 2 is now equal to X.
Step 5: Restore the file at path 1

There you go.
