Here is the summary of the Fosdem week-end! Xavier is speaking, I am,
JM, translating :).

* A lot of people, so a huge work for a single person… (NB from JM:
unfortunately I could not attend Fosdem this year and Xavier was finally
alone).
* As a result, many people met and many discussions:
   - a potential new contributor (a sysadmin at first glance)
   - professors from French universities who should be able to provide
some help through their students, in various topics (email contacts
being awaited)
   - met one of our Danish translators!
   - met the creator of GCompris who's still ager to see the latest
version of GCompris in DDL!!! (NB from JM: it's too much packaging work,
I prefer rely on Debian!)
   - met Russian people, very friendly, we may have new Russian contacts
soon. (NB from JM: fortunately I had sent Russian leaflets to Xavier
before Fosdem ;)

So this was very enriching!

* Concerning goodies, they've been nearly sold out!
   - Only 3 USB keys left for, say, 12-15 to be sold.
   - 140 € income + 40 € donation (NB from JM: our association now has
600-700 € of money + stock of goodies to be evaluated)
   - Many stickers given to visitors, translators, and so.
   - More than 500 leaflets distributed!!! In English, French, Russian,
Italian, Swedish :).
* We have an audience!!! People stop especially at our stand, each year!
Just for us! So yes this was enriching!

===============

Thanks Xavier for this great and tiring contribution to the project,
consisting in promoting DDL in a large European event. This is always
interesting to get live feedback from people, even if they've never
heard of us (which is less and less the case indeed :). I see you've
enjoyed doing this as much as I do when I have this opportunity. See you
next year in Brussels!

Now a personal note.

I think you're right: yes we have an audience, undoubtedly. I'm still
convinced DDL answers an issue that is not really or not correctly
answered by the purely commercial world: education and self-fulfillment
of children with digital tools, for the best of children and their
parents only. Of course this attracts an audience, potentially a large,
very large audience. Unfortunately we still have difficulties to find a
way to ensure the continued existence of our project. It is now too
large to be developed on the free time of few persons to provide
interesting new features, not large enough to get the visibility
required to get enough funding. Probably the best thing to do is to
continue promoting it, follow Debian changes as quickly as possible
(hem) and wait until good opportunities arise (new contributors, friend
organizations, donators, etc.). As stated by François Élie, free
software is free once it's been paid! (with free time, money, services
and so)

NB: Don't know if you've ever looked at our stats recently, we have had
more than 550,000 visitors on our website, download figures are in
hundred thousands, more than 45 languages opened on Transifex with more
than 200 translators, elected one of the distribution of year 2014, many
visitors at Fosdem, etc. Kind of success, isn't it?

Cheers,
JM.
